Kathy Nading

December 3, 1951 — August 8, 2021

Kathy Jean Nading, 69, went home to Jesus on August 8th, 2021. She passed away at Grove Hospital in Oklahoma. She was born December 3rd, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was the middle daughter to her parents, who she loved most dearly, Barbara and Benny Nading.  She was a graduate of South High School in Wichita, Kansas.

Known affectionately by her family and friends as “Aunt Kathy”, she lived in numerous states including Kansas, and for the past 38 years, Bernice, Oklahoma, where she enjoyed the laid back lifestyle of the lake, which allowed her to cast a line, go boating or just soak up the sun on Grand Lake.

Aunt Kathy had many passions including her love of Jesus and was an active and cherished member of the Bar-None Cowboy Church in Afton, Oklahoma. She enjoyed spending time writing extensively about her relationship with God and sharing them with friends and family.

Aunt Kathy enjoyed success in the restaurant industry for decades and was the proud owner of her own restaurant, called Mama’s Kitchen, in Chetopa, Kansas.  She loved baking and cooking for family and friends, especially during the holidays when she made her delicious toffee, Christmas desserts and amazing cakes and breads, all from scratch. Before retiring, she worked in other industries, including real estate and bookkeeping.

Her love of dogs began as a child. Throughout her entire life, she cared for, spoiled, and loved numerous dogs including her dachshund Princess, and her poodles, Zeb, Silvy and Dapper. If you knew Aunt Kathy, you knew she loved her dogs like children.  They were the luckiest dogs to have her as their caretaker.  She would do anything for them.

Aunt Kathy adored her nieces and nephews. She never hesitated to drop everything and come help when one of them was sick. She spent countless hours driving back and forth from Bernice to Independence to see sporting events, celebrate birthdays, attend graduations and family celebrations, and always had a huge hug and kiss to share when she arrived.  She cherished her time with her family deeply.

Kathy was a special person with a beautiful smile and heart. She was an incredible fisherwoman, baker, cook and crocheter of blankets, hats, and scarves and was very creative with craft projects. She had a big personality and could make friends with anyone she met. She could “talk your ear off” and at the end of the conversation you felt her love. She always let you know how much she loved you.

Aunt Kathy was taken from this earth way too soon, and her family and friends feel her loss immensely. With her beloved sister Becky at her side, she battled COVID-19 until the very end. But she was at peace with meeting her maker and being reunited with her parents and pets.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Benny Nading.  She is survived by her best friend and sister Becky (Steven) Wilson (Independence, Kansas), and her oldest sister Debra (Scott) Miller (Redlands, California), nieces: Delaina (Robert) Lee, (Kansas City, Missouri), Dereck (Jinny) Renfro, (Independence, Kansas), Kristi Wilson (Topeka, Kansas), Kim Wilson (Kansas City, Missouri). Doug (Brandi) Miller, (California), Dirk Miller (California), great nieces: Ember, Huntley, Crosby, great nephews: Cole, Saxton, Tucker and Camden.  Her dog Dapper is doing great at his new home on the Renfro/Wilson farm in Independence. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Webb and Rodrick Chapel.
