Steven E. Busby, 66, Independence, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Medicaloges in Independence, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Webb & Rodrick Chapel and Crematory with burial to follow at Robbins Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may register from 12 Noon until 8:00 p.m., on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the chapel. The family will receive friend’s from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left with the chapel.
Steven was born March 7, 1956, in Iowa City, Iowa to Bruman A. and Mildred M. (Hallett) Busby. He grew up and attended schools in Shreveport, Louisiana before moving to Independence, Kansas in 1971. Following the moved to Independence where Steve was employed at Phillips 66 gas station located at 10th and Main, he was also employed by his families Box and Pallett Company and finally Hackney where he oversaw maintenance until his retirement in Mach of 2021 after almost 35 years of dedicated service.
While working for the family Box and Pallett Company Steve met Betty Lawson and the couple was married on March 7, 1976, in Independence, Kansas. Steve enjoyed racing stock cars, building stock car engines, welding, camping, and building trailers. Steve is a longtime member of the Carson Lodge #132 in Elk City, Kansas.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 46 years Betty of the home, three children, Richard ( Mary Jo) Howard, Coffeyville, KS; Ronny ( Angela) Howard, Independence, KS; one daughter Terri (Tim) Botts, Independence, KS; one brother Jerry (Carolyn) one sister Suzie ( Mark) Rathbun, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
