Rodney “Hot Rod” Wayne Vannoster of Independence, Kansas passed away during the early morning hours of April 19th, surrounded by loved ones at Jane Phillips in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The family asks, those who would like to pay their respects to please join them in rejoicing at a Celebration of Life ceremony, May 1st at 1pm at the Caney Valley Antique Power Association (CVAPA). This would be a great way to celebrate his legacy, most of all rejoicing that he is free of pain. We’re aware that this isn’t very traditional but if you know Rod like so many do, you’ll understand his wishes, maybe even shake your head or roll your eyes just like he’s good at making everyone do. Growing his hair out, rebelling, and always going against the grain.
Rod was born in Independence to Jean Mcguirk and Jim Vannoster and Tammie Vannoster on March 14th, 1968. He attended independence school and caused a ruckus at any opportunity with his blue eyes and warm laugh. Rodney worked construction jobs, side jobs, and loved to bail hay for his dad. He loved telling stories of pranks he put his brother through growing up. Melvin (Hoss) and Laverda Folk treated Rodney as their own, which lead him to working for Ashcraft Tire Co. for several years. Rodney married Mary Davison on July 10th, 1999 at the Independence Riverside Park. He loved his wife, caregiver and best friend. He also loved calling his Dad almost everyday. He loved his family, he loved being covered in suckers and chocolates he had given the grand babies, the sun shining down on his face, a fishing pole in his hand, tractor pulls, shooting guns, and car shows.
