Mildred Mae (Frazier) Crosby

April 26, 1919 ~ June 11, 2022 (age 103)

Obituary

Mildred Mae Frazier Crosby was born April 26, 1919, on a farm in Franklin County, Iowa. She was the first of six children born to Hazel Mae and Milton Golden Frazier. She attended a rural school for the first eight grades, then graduated from Clear Lake High School. After attending Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa for two years, she taught for nearly five years in a rural one-room schoolhouse.

Mildred Crosby then pursued a career in nursing. She was a nurse’s aide in several hospitals in Iowa, and again when she moved to Chicago, Illinois. During her time in Chicago, she graduated from Manley School of Nursing to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

In 1959 she was married to Prescott Haines Crosby, in Mason City, Iowa. They lived in Independence, Kansas where Haines taught music at the Independence Bible School. Although, they were not blessed to have children of their own, they invested in the many students and friends from the school. Mildred was known for her hospitality which included a warm welcome, trays of little cookie treats, music and laughter. Loving God was the center point of their life. They lived about a block from the church and would walk together even when it was icy. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage.

In 1995, after the death of her husband, she spent three years with her sister Frances and brother-in-law Wayne Merfeld in Kenosha, Wisconsin. During that time, she attended the Sea Breeze Camp meeting in Hobe Sound, Florida and in 1999 permanently relocated to Harmony Apartments on the Hobe Sound campus where she found rich friendships, conservative holiness, and a family community of believers. She resided there until her death.

Sister Crosby was an avid follower of Christ and she wanted everything He had for her. In 1943 she prayed for salvation. She pursued holiness, and on December 10, 1975, she was baptized with the Holy Ghost, becoming entirely sanctified and was forever faithful to her Savior. She fervently studied the scriptures and poured over their meaning with the help of concordances and extensive reading. On her 103 birthday she summarized her testimony with this sentence. “The Lord has brought sweet rest to my soul.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Prescott Haines Crosby, her parents, Hazel and Milton Frazier, her brothers, DeWitt Frazier, Leonard Frazier, and her sisters, Frances Merfeld, and Dorothy Heinold.

She is survived by her brother Maurice (Marlene) Frazier along with many nieces and nephews and their families.
