Marsha Gale LeRoy, age 80, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Thursday, July 29th after a short battle with COVID.

Marsha was born on September 3, 1940, in Cedarvale, Kansas. She lived in Cedarvale, Augusta and Independence, KS. She attended Independence High School graduating in 1958 & Independence Community Junior College.

On August 23, 1959, she married Henry Lewis LeRoy, Jr. at the Bolton Friends Church in Bolton, Kansas. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2020. To this marriage, there were blessed with three daughters, Melody, Jody, & Dede.

The couple made their first home in Manhattan, KS and then returned to Independence, KS to raise their family. Marsha’s primary roles during her working career were as a bookkeeper for the family’s business at LeRoy’s Motor Supply Company, an insurance agent for Banker’s Life & Casualty Company, and her favorite role as landlord for multiple rental homes. She loved her tenants & their families.

Marsha was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, KS and served on the Deaconess Board. She loved to read her Bible, attend Bible study, and some of her favorite times were her prayer time & quiet times with God. She served as a Sunday school & youth group leader at the First United Methodist Church & was passionate about helping kids grow & learn about Jesus.

She was also a long time Community 4-H Leader for the Up & Coming 4-H Club. She was dedicated to her leadership role & helping develop the youth in her 4-H Club. She helped plan many wonderful 4-H trips and events.

Marsha loved her cat, Baby, and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grammy, great-grammy, cousin and friend. She loved bowling & square dancing with the Independence Promenade Club. She loved to play the piano, quilt, and read. She also loved to bake and cook and taught her children and grandchildren how to make bread and the best pies in the world (especially peach). She was passionate about recycling and donating to various charities. She also loved to travel with family with vacation trips to Texas, California, Jamaica, Branson and the overall favorite family vacation trip to Hawaii for Jr. and Marsha’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Surviving to honor her memory are her three daughters – Jody LeRoy of Manhattan, KS, DeDe Metcalf and husband Keith, and Melody Moore and husband Mike of Independence, KS; grandchildren, Ashley Muller and husband Joe of Coffeyville, KS, Shane Moore and wife Abbey of Waco, TX, Madison Findley and husband George of Valley Center, KS, Collin Wood of Manhattan, KS, Mason and Jared Metcalf of Independence, KS; great grandchildren, Gatlan, Treager, and Preslyn Muller and baby due in Jan. 2022, Bennett Moore, Camdyn and Rowyn Findley; multiple cousins and nieces.

Marsha was preceded in death by her husband, Henry LeRoy Jr.’ her parents, Ivan and Cleo Burton; mother and father-in-law, Rita and Henry LeRoy Sr.; sister, Cheryl Sexton and grandsons – Andrew Keith Metcalf and Jacob Michael Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 21st at 10:00a.m. at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home in Independence, KS. Pastor Randy Beeman will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 20th at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home in Independence, KS with the family present to greet friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church in Independence, KS or the Montgomery County 4-H youth organization.
