James "Jimmy" Hiner Jr

June 5, 1953 — April 16, 2021

James Curtis Hiner, Jr. (Jimmy) was born in Muskogee, OK on June 5, 1953 to Charlotte (Ross) and James C. Hiner, Sr.  Jimmy passed on to be with our Father in Heaven on April 16, 2021 after an unexpected and brief illness.  He was 67 years old.

Jimmy grew up and graduated from Broken Arrow, OK High School.  There he excelled in athletics and was named Football All-America 1970, plus many medals in track and wrestling.

He graduated from Tulsa University in 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Jimmy then taught high school science and biology at Broken Arrow, OK and Owasso, OK.  He also coached high school football and track.

In 1981, Jimmy became the General Manager for the Central States Rodeo Association.   Jimmy’s love for rodeo was a life-long passion, beginning with his father.  He won numerous awards riding bulls and steer wrestling.   Jimmy and his three brothers made CSRA Finals history in 1982 as all four brothers qualified for the CSRA Finals in bull riding.

In 1987, Jimmy and his brother, Eddie, formed a partnership starting with Hiner’s Construction Company.  Later they expanded into J & E Trucking, hauling freight throughout the 48 contiguous states for more than 20 years.

Jimmy married the love of his life, Deby (Bennett) Hiner on November 22, 1985. They were blessed with two daughters, Jami and Kati while living in Owasso, OK. In 1996, they moved to Independence, KS to start a cattle ranch.  Jimmy passed on to his daughters his passion for cattle.  Together as a family, they expanded Hiner’s H3 Ranch over the years raising Black Angus cattle.  In addition to ranching, Jimmy loved watching his two daughters excel in sports just as he had done in school.

The ranch expanded and Jimmy & Eddie also established Hiner Feeders, a cattle feedlot.  Jimmy loved feeding cattle, and in addition to his own, other ranchers brought cattle to the feedlot for him to finish.  He was also thrilled to have Jami and Kati work on the ranch and feedlot as his businesses grew over the years.

Jimmy was “Pop” to his two granddaughters, Addisyn and Kassi.   The love between them was evident.  He often snuck home from the feedlot to love on them. “Pop” and “tractor” are two of Addisyn’s first and favorite words.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Deby, daughters, Jami and husband Michael Clark of Havana, KS and Kati and husband Brandon Munger of Independence, KS, much loved granddaughters, Addisyn and Kassi Clark, brothers Eddie, Charles, and Gary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Charlotte Hiner, and his sister, Peggy Hiner.

Jimmy was loved by many, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
