Independence

Charles V. “Scatter” Rexwinkle, 87, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at his residence, Country Place Senior Living.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at First Southern Baptist Church of Independence.  The family will greet visitors on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until service time.  Burial will follow in Edna Cemetery in Edna, Kansas.  Memorials may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left with the chapel.

Charles was born August 8, 1933 to Ernest “Tom” and Gladys (Foster) Rexwinkle in rural Welch, Oklahoma.  He attended high school in Edna, Kansas and Welch, Oklahoma where he graduated.  He also later took classes at the Trade School in Coffeyville, Kansas. On December 28, 1953, he married Donna Storm in Miami, Oklahoma.  The couple made their home in rural Edna, Oklahoma until Charles enlisted in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After his discharge in 1956 the couple moved to Coffeyville, Kansas where he worked as a precision machinist at Pressure Cast and Magic Circle.  They later moved to rural Edna, Kansas and eventually settled in Independence, Kansas in 1990.  He was the owner of SEKTAM of Independence from 1985 - 2003.  Charles was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Deer, elk, caribou, and wild boar were just some of the game he hunted in Colorado, Alaska, and Canada.  He attended First Southern Baptist Church of Independence, Kansas.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobby and Stanley; and his wife of 65 years, Donna and infant sister, Lois.  Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Curtis (SunLi) Rexwinkle of Independence, Kansas; two daughters, Brenda (Dwight) Cooper of rural Edna, Kansas; Pam (Dale) McDaniel of Neodesha, Kansas; three brothers, Joe (Penny) Rexwinkle of Edna, Kansas; Dale (Elaine) Rexwinkle of Monkey Island, Oklahoma; Randy (Roselyn Calinoff) of Chugiak, Alaska; three sisters, Louise Stephenson of Hinton, Oklahoma; Lela Linn of Miami, Oklahoma; Carolyn (Charles) Chips of Weslaco, Texas; five grandchildren: Abbie (Adam) Stratton of Jasper, Missouri; Kally (Tyler) Lewis of Wichita, Kansas; Luke McDaniel of Denver, Colorado; Cyarra and Lianna Rexwinkle both of Independence, Kansas; and five great grandchildren: Cooper, Ellie, Owen, Anniston, and Baylor.
