I grew up watching Ray play football and basketball for the Bulldogs and Pirates. Later we both coached different sports at IHS at the same time, and taught for the school district. Loved talking sports - and everything else - with that man. I think the only thing he loved more than sports was his family. My deepest thoughts and prayers to all.

Very sorry for your loss and praying for you guys. I was fortunate enough to coach with Ray and join him as he made some history at IHS taking the boys basketball team all the way to the state championship game. We spent a lot of time together and I got to see first hand his love for his family and for his players. He was a pretty darn good coach too. We were blessed with some good players but that match up zone he put in had everyone confused. It fit our personnel perfectly and the other team could never figure out what we were running. He was a good coach and a good man and it was my honor, and pleasure, to know him. RIP Coach.

When we first moved to Independence our neighbors were Ray and Lorraine. Our boys were the same age and Ray and Mike often found them up watching some television program and were told to go back to bed when spending the night at each other's house. Ray was very welcoming to us as we were living in a new community and Mike so enjoyed talking sports with him. A wonderful man who left us all too soon. Thoughts and prayers for all of you.
